Foam Board, Wooden Skewers, Hot Glue, String

28" x 20"

This sculpture is inspired by the construction of a carousel, one of the most commonly known theme park ride. It is based off of specifically the top portion of the ride. My intent was to portray an iconic theme park ride and create an intriguing symbol with it. The skewers were used to create an intricate and detailed pattern. The black foam board helps the actual piece stand out more. I wanted people to think about a theme park by seeing a symbol that represents an iconic ride.

How carousel is made - history, used, parts, structure, product, industry, machine

Beach Side

Stones Self-Hardening Clay, Ink, Color Pencil

2" x 2" 1.5"

This sculpture portrays a trip I used to take with my family. I used to going camping with my family and there was this fun spot on the beach with dozens of dead trees that we would climb and explore. I chose clay as the material cause the look and texture reminded me of wet sand on the beach. The wavy pattern and blue ink represent the ocean and the lines wrapping around it portrays all the tree trunks. The color pencil was used to create a texture look of old tree bark.

Air Pollution

The sculpture entitled Can't Breath was inspired by the issue of air quality and pollution. My intent is to visually communicate the poor air quality that our society produces. I wanted to focus on air pollution because I consider it a major problem for not just our society, but the environment as well. I decided to include the gas mask instead of a regular face mask to show the severity of the problem. I felt the work was lacking the message that this is caused by society so I decided to add the factory aspect to show how this problem is created by people. I want to keep exploring the negative effects of this issue. I want to learn more about the sources and how we may be able to decrease them. This piece allowed me to explore an issue that effects so many living things. The making of this work explored new ideas such as portraying a serious issue with something so small and simple.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION | Earth

This sculpture entitled Growing Trash was inspired by the unfortunately common problem of environmental pollution and waste. My intent is to visually communicate the constant waste being thrown into our environment. I wanted to focus on environmental pollution because it is such a common issue that we are seeing everywhere. I decided to include healthy looking plants to show how important the environment is. I felt the work was lacking more of the problem so I sculpted bags and pieces of trash to go around the bust. I want to keep exploring problems like this that can be solved with simple solutions. I want to learn more about common problems like this one. This piece allowed me to explore a good vs evil message visually. The making of this work exposed new ideas such as portraying different elements and having them work as one piece.
