Can't Breath
Stones Self-Hardening Clay, Ink, Wood
4" x 4"
Research
The sculpture entitled Can't Breath was inspired by the issue of air quality and pollution. My intent is to visually communicate the poor air quality that our society produces. I wanted to focus on air pollution because I consider it a major problem for not just our society, but the environment as well. I decided to include the gas mask instead of a regular face mask to show the severity of the problem. I felt the work was lacking the message that this is caused by society so I decided to add the factory aspect to show how this problem is created by people. I want to keep exploring the negative effects of this issue. I want to learn more about the sources and how we may be able to decrease them. This piece allowed me to explore an issue that effects so many living things. The making of this work explored new ideas such as portraying a serious issue with something so small and simple.
